Bible Byte 1010 (Psalm 138:7)

Psalm 138:7 – “Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me: thou wilt stretch forth thy hand against the wrath of my enemies, and thy right hand will save me.”

There is something significant to be said about the right hand of God. According to this scripture in the Psalter, we can see that by the right hand of God, we have deliverance and salvation. This can be demonstrated through a couple of related scriptures. First, we have Psalm 20:6, which says, “Now I know that the LORD saveth his anointed; he will hear him from his holy heaven with the saving strength of his right hand.” Second, we have Psalm 60:5, which says, “That thy beloved may be delivered; save with thy right hand, and hear me.” The Lord’s right hand is also a place of refuge, as shown in Psalm 17:7, which says, “Show thy wonderful loving-kindness, O thou who savest by thy right hand those who put their trust in thee from those who rise up against them.” So, we now see that through God’s right hand, we have salvation, deliverance, and refuge.

Here are some other instances of God’s right hand.

Exodus 15:6 – “Thy right hand, O LORD, has become glorious in power: thy right hand, O LORD, hath dashed in pieces the enemy.”
Exodus 15:12 – “Thou stretchedst out thy right hand, the earth swallowed them.”
Psalm 89:13 – “Thou hast a mighty arm: strong is thy hand, and high is thy right hand.”
Psalm 118:16 – “The right hand of the LORD is exalted: the right hand of the LORD doeth valiantly.”

Now, I would like to turn your focus to some other scriptures that reference the right hand of God in a different way.

Psalm 80:17 – “Let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand, upon the son of man whom thou madest strong for thyself.”
Acts 2:33 – “Therefore being exalted by the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.”
Ephesians 1:20 – “Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,”
Colossians 3:1 – “If then ye were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.”
1 Peter 3:22 – “Who has gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels, and authorities, and powers being made subject to him.”

After reading that second set of scriptures, we can see that it is Jesus Christ who is at the right hand of God. This makes sense given the fact that salvation comes through Christ alone. Also, since Christ has been crucified and resurrected, He not only conquered the grave, but He also conquered the afflictions of His saints. Therefore, Christians have their deliverance through Jesus Christ.

So, as you read the scriptures and you come across the right hand of God, you can almost always assume that Christ is there. Salvation, deliverance, refuge, valiant, glorious in power, mighty, exalted—all of which not only describe the right hand of God, but also Jesus Christ, the King of Kings.
