Tip: Take a Screenshot on the iPod Touch

29 12 2008

This is probably in a manual somewhere or on a website. However, I figured this little tip out during the most unlikely time: an iPod crash.

I was sitting at a Bible study fixing to read my notes when, all of a sudden, my iPod locked up. Well, the time came for me to begin reading and my iPod was ever so stubborn. The group was waiting patiently for what I had to say, but all they got was a look of bewilderment and the sounds of my iPod taking pictures. After getting my iPod to reboot, all was well and the Bible study continued.

After the Bible study, I went home and synced my iPod Touch as usual. This time, something different happened. Not only did iTunes launch, but iPhoto launched as well. After iPhoto completed its launch, I was greeted with a series of screenshots taken on my iPod Touch… the ones during the crash.

So, with some tinkering a bit, I was able to replicate what I accidentally did to take a screenshot. This is what I did.

  1. Get the screen to look just as you want it to when you take the screenshot
  2. Hold the Home Button in for about 1 second
  3. While still holding the home button, press the power button on top of the iPod Touch (you will hear a shutter sound and the screen will flash white)
  4. As soon as you hear the shutter sound, release both buttons.

Finally, to see your shiny new screenshot, tap on the Photos application and you should see your screenshot in the Saved Photos album.
